CT River Greenway

4.97 acres of the Connecticut River Greenway located on the shore of the river off Damon Road
The park is located at 68 Damon Road in Northampton.

The site includes the remains of the Northampton-New Haven canal's original river harbor, and offers a unique perspective on an important part of the Connecticut River. From Laurie Sanders' 2014 report:

"But what’s curious about this stretch of the Connecticut River is that it includes one of the river’s sharpest bends. After heading almost due west, the river takes an abrupt turn to the south. Why? Probably because hard, metamorphic bedrock is buried just below the layer of till. As the river bumps against the ero- sion resistant rock, its energy is de- flected and its path shifts from due west to due south, and from that point, the river meanders east over the old lake bed."

There is a short trail to a small bench, from which you can admire the impressive breadth of this bend in the river.
